Register for Self-Assessment
If you are a Sole Trader or member of a Partnership you must register for
Self-Assessment with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC)
Once you’ve registered you’ll get a Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number and
you can then send your tax return to HMRC.
These rules are only applicable for United Kingdom
Before you register
Before you register make sure you have found your:
- National Insurance number
- Personal contact details - e.g. address
- Business details - e.g. business address, date you started
self-employment or joined a partnership
- If you’re registering a new business partnership, you must be the
‘nominated partner’ (the partner responsible for sending in the partnership
tax return).
