| Mogens Thomsen, owner of Thomsen Business Information, has since
1995 taught entrepreneurship and provided counseling for entrepreneurs
in Scandinavia, especially in Denmark.
His experience from working with entrepreneurs was the basis for his
bestselling book on how to create a business plan and start a small
business. He wrote it in 1998 and the content of this book has been the
basis of his work ever since
All knowledge on the web
In the early days of internet the basic information in his book was
transformed to the most visited startup web site in Denmark. The CEO of the
business development center where Thomsen worked supported the idea that “all
entrepreneurial knowledge must go on the web”. The center possessed an enormous
knowledge about startups and Thomsen transformed all this to online information. |

Focus on knowledge
Thomsen soon experienced that there was a huge interest in online
entrepreneurial information. So in 2002 he launched the web site 100answers which
only focused on “start and management of a small business”.
This site is
still the 2nd most visited entrepreneurship web site in Denmark. No. 1 is the
official Danish entrepreneurship web site – to which Thomsen has also delivered
substantial content.
An even more focused approach to help entrepreneurs get started was published
in 2006 – the start guides. A start guide is a 15 pages PDF document explaining
how to start a specific type of business in Denmark - at the moment there are
guides for 25 different types of businesses and they are today widely used by
Danish entrepreneurs.
From national to international
Thomsen has years of experience in living and working with people from
around the world. He has driven a bus from Europe to India, travelled in
Latin-American and worked as a business consultant in Africa/Zambia for more
than two years. His international experience combined with his profound knowledge of
entrepreneurship suddenly combined into a vision one sunny December day in 2005.
Thomsen was taking one of his frequent 5 kilometer runs in the nearby
Marseliesborg Woods. At the 3 kilometer milestone it dawned upon him that the
concept he had used to guide the many Danish entrepreneurs to startup was
equally valid for e.g. an Indian IT engineer who wants to start a business in
Mumbai, India. |

He ran directly home, skipped his shower, opened his computer and started
writing his new book: The Dynamic Business Plan.

Business Essentials
What dawned on Thomsen that day was that “Business essentials for startups
are the same all over the world – the only difference is the national laws and
legislations” If you are an entrepreneurs who are in the process of starting a small
business you must relate to the same issues:
- Your personal resources
- Your product
- The market situation
- How you will approach the market, and
- Can you manage to make
money?
A street vendor in Bangladesh must relate to these issues and so must the
software entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, USA.
One question many answers
The questions to be asked by the entrepreneurs are the same – the answers
are very different. The Dynamic Business Plan asks the relevant questions – the
entrepreneurs answer them according to their environment.
Today The Dynamic Business Plan and the “Business Essentials for Startups” have
been developed further and are available on multiply channels – e.g. web, app,
books and e-books.
Free entrepreneurship education material
Thomsen was inspired by the UNDP report “Unleashing Entrepreneurship”. The
report says that one of the pillars to unleashing entrepreneurship is: “Access
to Skills and Knowledge” and that is one of the gifts he can deliver to the
world community. He therefore gives his book away free of charge to
entrepreneurship lectures around the world. Over 200 teachers have asked for
education material until now and they use it in their classes.

National – international – local
Besides being the owner of Thomsen Business Information, Thomsen works as an
entrepreneurship consultant at his home town’s business development center.
His main focus is on foreigners and immigrants coming to the international
town of Aarhus. Assisting them to start their own business is a great way to
bring international entrepreneurship experience in use in the local community
and to bring entrepreneurship to life among the international entrepreneurs.
